                  • Twitter is paying a steep price for its growth strategy. In order to expand into foreing markets it needs to obey their law. Therefore it added a tool that lets them block certain content on a country by country base. They promised to be transparent about this. It remains to be seen how this tool will come into effect. There will be mounting pressure now since we know Twitter is capable of doing it. How will free speech be effected? The Arab spring has shown that audiences can be very fast to move on to other communication hubs when in crisis mode. It remains to be seen how that story unfolds...

                  • As a marketing agency we are of course relating to Mad Men. Here is a nice app to promote Mad Men in the Netherlands. The app builds an ad for you based on three questions you answer and an image you provide. You can then share the ad if you like. Might be worth 1 minute of your time...Save it and add it to your resume :)

                  • McDonalds is a brand that has made a lot of changes. They even hired a former head of Greenpeace Germany as a consultant. But badwill towards a brand can go a very long way. McDonalds created the Twitter hashtag #McDstories and aimed to share positive stories of where McDonald’s food comes from. Not to our big surprise people took that hashtag and started talking trash about the brand. McDonalds pulled that tag after a few hours. Another tag called #meetthefarmer is still up. They are definitely trying but this is a steep uphill battle. A high profile brand like that has to think about every step in the social media landscape and predict the possible outcomes like a chess player.
