Mobile Marketing - always on..
Mobile phones are the most established communication tool of our times. They are getting used for sending text messages (SMS
), taking and sending pictures or videos (MMS
), MP3 players, gaming console et cetera - some people are still using them for talking purposes as well;-)
Here are some suggestions how you could use mobile marketing:
SMS – Daily Business with 160 characters..
Short Messaging Service (SMS
) allows for the sending of text messages with up to 160 characters. It is one of the most popular applications for mobile phones. In Germany 99% of all teenagers, 72% of all men and 92% of all women are using SMS on a regular base.
MMS – Images and videos from phone to phone..
Multimedia messaging service (MMS
) is used to distribute images, videos and audio files. A text file with up to 1000 characters can be attached. About 40% of the mobile users are using MMS already. MMS
already surpassed SMS
as the most popular mobile application in countries like Japan, Korea, France or Great Britain.
Bluetooth & Infrared – riding for free..
Bluetooth and infrared are two ways to transmit your content to mobile phones for
free - unlike sending an SMS
or MMS
over a carrier's network. The biggest problem with the use of infrared and bluetooth
is the limited range (usually up to 30 feet).
With the help of bluetooth beamers the range from sender to recipient can reach over 300 feet. Enough to reach everyone passing by a storefront.
Push or Pull – avoiding Mobile SPAM..
The push approach allows for the sending of a messages without a direct request of the recipient - similar to a direct mailing.
The pull approach requires initial action of the recipient first. The recipient needs to send a code or request mobile content from a bluetooth beamer
. No matter whether push or pull - the recipient should have agreed to receive the messages ("permission based marketing
"). Nobody wants the amount of spam on their phones that hammers our email boxes.
getting creative..
Mobile marketing offers new options to get in touch with consumers that haven't been explored too much yet:
Mobile coupons
can be used in a local or in an online store
Location based services, i.e. with the use of a bluetooth beamer
Short videos and other interesting content isn't just popular on the web but also gets sent from one phone to the next (see our example "mobile virus")
Enhancing banners with mobile components allowing users to ask for mobile coupons or other benefits via SMS
or infrared/bluetooth.
Remote controlling of banners or other installations - i.e. a car banner where the engine can be started via SMS
…
Combining Online & Mobile - A story of future days?
Most of today's Internet use is still originated from laptops or desktop computers. But mobile Internet is becoming more popular very quickly due to faster connections and new devices such as the iPhone.
Is it online or mobile marketing if a user gets access to a website via their mobile phone? How about taking an image and uploading it to a website? Or watching a YouTube video on a mobile device?
You can see that the borders between mobile and online marketing are getting blurry. This is why we often use the term "electronic media" instead of online and mobile. New opportunities pop up every day and we would be excited to show you some ways how you could benefit from using electronic media marketing.
