Making your own car commercial – Chevy puts you in the directors’ seat
April 7th, 2006 | by Klaus Holzapfel |
It is very easy to bash the Detroit Auto makers these days. I have certainly been guilty of it. They suck in so many different ways. So the good really sticks out (maybe that’s part of their marketing plan).
Enough said. Here is something pretty cool: At Chevy “The Apprentice” they put you in the director’s seat and let you design a video for the new Chevy Tahoe. All online and pretty easy to do. Of course with prizes for the best entries.
Never thought of the Detroit guys stepping up so nicely…
If it were for a cooler car it’d be even better. SUV’s don’t really serve all that well for a neat campaign any longer. Maybe a button to shrink the vehicle could be added to the video editing.
U THINK?
Apparently many guys had a similar thought process and the whole campaign backfired pretty nicely. If you take a look at this article at news.com you can see how much the whole thing got out of hand. 100’s of Chevy Tahoe trashing videos are circulating the web already. Doesn’t anybody notice that the tide has turned?
Too many Dr. Evils around out there.
Anyway; German & Japanese car makers: Time to pimp up your websites!
And: We do not need a Q7 or a Mercedes Monster SUV over here…
