Here is an idea for all of you who feel like testing their perceived integrity a little bit. Why not sending out an email that reads like the one underneath to your friends and business partners?
If they buy into it and this mail is getting distributed by its readers you are in trouble. If the mail dies rather quickly you are in safe territory. “Viral Marketers ABC” is obviously a dummy. You’d have to put your own name in there (or that of a “friend” :-) ).
I figure that email is 99% useless in our days anyway, so we might as well use it for what its worth.
Here is the email draft:
————-BEGINNING OF EMAIL————-
Subject: Viral Marketers ABC Beta test
To all of my friends, I do not usually forward messages, But this is from my friend Samuel Lawmaker and he really is an attorney. If he says that this will work – It will work. After all, What have you got to lose?
SORRY EVERYBODY.. JUST HAD TO TAKE THE CHANCE!!! I’m an attorney, and I know the law. This thing is for real. Rest assured Viral Marketer ABC will follow through with their promises for fear of facing a multimillion-dollar class act on suit similar to the one filed by PepsiCo against General Electric not too long ago.
Dear Friends; Please do not take this for a junk letter. Viral Marketers ABC are sharing their fortune. If you ignore this, you will repent later. Viral Marketers ABC is a large Internet company and in an effort to make sure that they remain the most popular, Viral Marketers ABC is running a beta test.
When you forward this e-mail to friends, and put a link to their site on your blog, Viral Marketers ABC can and will track it for a two weeks time period.
For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Viral Marketers ABC will pay you $24.50 For every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Viral Marketers ABC will pay you $24.30 and for every third person that receives it, You will be paid $24.10. Within two weeks, Viral Marketers ABC will contact
you for your address and then send you a check.
I thought this was a scam myself, But two weeks after receiving this e-mail and forwarding it on Viral Marketers ABC contacted me for my address and within days, received a check for $2,480.00. You need to respond before the beta testing is over. If anyone can afford this, Viral Marketers ABC are the guys.
It’s all marketing expense to them. Please forward this to as many people as possible. You are bound to get at least $1,000.00 We’re not going to help them out with their e-mail beta test without getting a little something for our time. My brother’s girlfriend got in on this a few months ago.
When I went to visit him for the Lakers/Miami game. She showed me her check. It was for the sum of $4,324.44 and was stamped “Paid in full”.
Like I said before, I know the law, and this is for real.
————-END OF EMAIL————-
As noted at the beginning of this post – I am not that creative. Just had the thought after I received the original email. I altered it only slightly. I lowered the numbers a bit since you are not Bill Gates (you are not reading this, are you?)
Goes who the names in the original mail were? Microsoft and AOL. It should speak for their integrity that nonsense like that is making the rounds on the web. I got the first copy over a year ago and this thing is still making the rounds.
I guess, being the wealthiest man on earth and applying slightly questionable marketing tactics here and there does have a price.
You know when I not 100% dead serious, right? Over and out.
