Hats off to Spain

June 14th, 2006 · No Comments

Here is a team that has been written off by their national press. The have the strongest league in the world but much of that is credited to the foreign superstars in their teams.

It looked like the blend of the Spanish players sans their foreign stars was just the perfect mix. A young and hungry team with excellent ball handling capabilities that never stopped pushing - even when they were up already. They’ve got a little present form the referee today but it didn’t make a big difference at the end.

Their fourth goal was soccer at its very best. This one belongs into the history books. That was truly Brazilian style.

They have scored a lot of goals during the last World Cup as well and then lost to South Korea but I think they are better this time. The Ukraine wasn’t even playing all that bad. They just had no chance at all.

I hope we will see more great performances from that team. I’ll be watching them for sure…

PS:
Why exactly is Raul my favorite player of the world?

He’s done and seen it all and is still around and keeps being a nice and humble guy. He is a role model. A long career in Madrid with all its changes, ups and downs hasn’t really changed him. Coaches and players come and go every year. Madrid is a madhouse. Raul stays. It is hard to imagine to see him paying somewhere else.

He is truly happy to be in the team - even as a substitute. I think that his spirit can lead Spain a long way at this tournament. You go boy!!!
