Relocating to Denver

August 1st, 2006 · 3 Comments

Shocking news: conceptbakery USA (including myself) has moved from Los Angeles to Denver.

Obviously this is a move full of sacrifices. Here some of the things I will miss the most about not being in LA:

  1. I won’t be able to congratulate Pam and Kid Rock to their splendid wedding party once they return from France.
  2. I won’t be able to watch Mel Gibson live at the PCH once he yells at the Police the next time. Especially his line “I own Malibu” was such a classic. I wonder what some other actors (+governors) who think the same have to say about that.
  3. I have to dedicate time following the weather channel again. The weather in Colorado does eventually change.
  4. I’ll miss my car chases in local TV. Now I’ll have to Oprah in the afternoons ;-)
  5. Obviously: LA Traffic. Los Angeles has that wonderful bumper to bumper traffic for all people who are scared of going faster than 15 miles. Plus it gives you a great opportunity to look at all the latest car makes & models without ever having to visit a showroom - priceless!
  6. Talking about cars: The one guy in Denver you want to stay in good terms with is John Elway. He pretty much owns the local car market and you’d be down to cycling if you ever miss up with 17 dealerships. But his friendly irresistible smile on every corner of the town makes me believe we’ll make friends and keep it that way;-)
  7. I also miss the real estate market. It was fun to see completely run down shacks being priced almost a million dollar. And then other people actually buying these homes with enthusiasm. Since we left I can definitely says that this market needs a little correction. Like 40% or so.

Note:

Surveys showed that the people in LA are not all that happy with living there at all. Even with the Pacific and the great weather in place. I was certainly not an early adopter here. It took me a long time to come to the conclusion that there are valid alternatives. Every other person in our old neighborhood complained about living in LA. Every person in our new neighborhood loves being in Denver.

As some presidents said it nicely before: It’s the people god###ned!

Go figure.

I hope you know you are getting closer to Iowa! Be careful. You might end up in the land of corn and pigs.

Actually, I think you will love Colorado. And it doesn’t matter where “there” is when you live in a networked world like we do.

Thanks for the update - keep creating,
    Mike

You will do great in Denver! I was just visiting a friend there and had the time of my life! There is so much going on for everyone and the sun is always shining! My friend was living at a great property in Cherry Creek that is worth checking out. Close to the bike path, downtown and the shopping district. Lots to do.

(another great downtown apartment building that is new)
That was the #1 hassle my girlfriend had with moving, but she is so happy about where she ended up!

Enjoyed your comments on the World Cup. Was in the North End in Boston during the win and it felt like being on the streets of Italy! YOu may enjoy watching the movie “Green Street Hooligans” as well. Great depiction of how important football is to the fans abroad! Viva Italia! Good luck!
