CSS - Cascading Style Sheets

CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) are a way to separate content from the code of your website.

CSS can be included in the header of your html documents but if possible should be stored in an external file. It has some major benefits over traditional html design:

Easier site maintenance
One destination (your CSS file) lets you control the best part of the look and feel of your Web site. You make a change in your CSS file and it is automatically getting applied to all html files (= webpages) that are relating to this CSS file.
Better text-to-code ratio
Search engines love content. They don't really care for your code. The more content and the less code the better for your search engine efforts. CSS lets you position most of your code (size of text, color of certain areas, background images…) in an external file, so search engines don't even get to see it. You text will be much more condensed.
More control over which content appears on top of your documents
Your main content is the most important element of your page and should be exposed to search engines near the top of your html document. A traditional table-based layout can present many limitations to that task. CSS gives you more freedom in how to position your content elements within your html document.

Note

Conceptbakery loves CSS. We are convinced that advanced CSS layouts are the web design of the future. It requires a lot of attention to detail to create bulletproof CSS layouts but we feel that it warrants the efforts.

Conceptbakery can review your code and develop an approach to convert your existing table based site into an more advanced CSS layout.
